The new look of the Undisputed Champion

Pull up a stool, everyone. We need to talk about the physical state of the top guy in this business. CM Punk is currently carrying the Undisputed WWE Championship, but the conversation lately hasn't been about his promo skills or his latest feud. It’s about the fact that he looks like he’s prepping for a bodybuilding show rather than a cage match.

As WrestleTalk recently reported, AJ Styles decided to reach out to the champion after seeing the transformation. We’ve seen Styles in the ring for years, a guy who keeps his conditioning at a level that makes everyone else look like they skipped leg day. When a veteran of his caliber notices a change in his peer, you know it isn't just internet trolls blowing things out of proportion.

The Phenomenal observation

AJ Styles isn't known for handing out compliments like candy. If he’s taking the time to send a text or make a call, it’s because something about the physical reality of the situation stood out. Styles saw a man who has clearly been spending more time in the weight room than he has in the catering line, and perhaps that’s what a champion needs to do to stay on top in 2026.

Is it a bit weird that we are hyper-analyzing a guy’s body instead of his work-rate? Maybe. But this is professional wrestling. Image is half the battle, and when you’re closing the show, people notice if you look like you’ve been living on stale pretzels and lukewarm energy drinks. Punk is clearly trying to tighten up the ship, and the locker room is paying attention.

Booking logic vs biological limits

There is a harsh reality here that fans often ignore. Wrestling takes a toll that would make a cage fighter ask for a vacation. When a guy puts on substantial mass or leans out significantly, we immediately start playing the guessing game, but sometimes the answer is just discipline. Punk has been through years of physical hell, and if he’s found a way to recalibrate his physique to handle the grind of a main event run, good for him.

My gripe? Let’s hope this aesthetic pivot doesn't come at the cost of the mobility he needs. If the extra bulk turns him into a guy who can only hit three moves before needing a breather, the fans will turn on that experiment faster than a heel in a hometown main event. We don’t need a bodybuilder; we need a worker who can go for 25 minutes without looking like he’s about to cough up a lung.

Let’s be real, the mid-card is full of guys who have the physique of a Greek god but can’t find their way out of a paper bag in the ring. Punk has the charisma to bridge the gap. If he can maintain the intensity of his last major feud while adding this level of definition, he’s basically painting a target on his back for everyone else to try and reach that standard. Styles reaching out is just the veteran acknowledging that the bar has been reset. We’ll see if the rest of the roster is actually listening.
