The Booking Maze of SummerSlam

WWE is speeding toward SummerSlam on August 1 and August 2, but the creative direction feels like it is in absolute chaos. The June 29 episode of Raw from Atlantic City had a special start time of 6 p.m. Eastern because the promotion had to pre-tape SmackDown due to the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

As Ringside News noted, fans in the arena even got a pre-show bonus when Dragon Lee rolled up Rusev to counter the Accolade in a taped match for Main Event. That was a fun surprise, but the main show itself exposed the deep cracks in the current product.

Viewership figures show a product in need of a spark. The June 22 broadcast from London generated 2.3 million global views on Netflix, dropping from the 2.4 million recorded the previous week.

Competition from the FIFA World Cup and a weird afternoon timeslot in the United States dragged those numbers down, but the creative stagnation is the real culprit. WWE needs a massive SummerSlam to steady the ship, but the two main events confirmed this week show a creative team scrambling for answers.

The Main Events: Head-to-Head Breakdowns

Rollins Has Roman's Number, and History Proves It

The closing segment of Raw saw Seth Rollins interrupt Roman Reigns and Jacob Fatu. Rollins immediately played the Shield nostalgia card, launching into a long monologue about their history.

He claimed that Reigns has never beaten him when it matters, but Cagematch records show that statement is factually incorrect. Reigns defeated Rollins in their very first singles match on Raw in September 2014. Despite that statistical error, Rollins still holds a massive mental edge over the champion.

Whenever these two meet on a major stage, Rollins finds a way to exploit Reigns' emotional instability. Look at their match at Royal Rumble 2022, where Rollins wore his Shield gear and dragged Reigns into a disqualification loss.

Look at WrestleMania 41, where Rollins pinned CM Punk and Reigns in the night one main event to capture the World Heavyweight Championship. Rollins is Roman's ultimate kryptonite because he knows exactly which psychological buttons to push. Reigns agreed to defend the title against Rollins at SummerSlam, but he is walking right into a trap.

Rollins does not just beat Reigns; he dismantles him mentally before the bell even rings. Reigns' current run has been defined by the physical dominance of Jacob Fatu.

When you strip that security blanket away, Reigns becomes vulnerable to the precise, tactical strikes that Rollins excels at. Rollins will pick him apart, and that is why he will win back the World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam.

The Bloodline Fracture and the Isolated Champion

The tactical setup of the Bloodline is starting to disintegrate. On Raw, LA Knight faced Jimmy Uso in a singles match that ended in chaos.

Knight attacked the Usos and looked to fall victim to the numbers game, but Solo Sikoa made a surprise appearance. Backstage, a massive argument broke out when Jey and Jimmy Uso questioned Fatu about his absence during the brawl.

Fatu made it clear that he only answers to Roman Reigns, not the Usos. This internal division is a massive red flag for the champion.

Furthermore, Jey Uso announced that he is heading to SmackDown to deal with Solo Sikoa once and for all. Jey also revealed his intentions to challenge Sami Zayn for the WWE Championship, assuming Zayn retains the title.

This means Jey will be completely occupied on Friday nights. Jimmy Uso is struggling to regain his footing, and Fatu is increasingly isolated in his loyalty.

Without a unified Bloodline to run interference, Reigns will have to face Rollins alone in the ring. A solo Roman Reigns is a beatable Roman Reigns.

Baffling Booking: The Oba Femi Hell in a Cell Trap

The announcement of Oba Femi versus Brock Lesnar in Hell in a Cell is one of the most baffling decisions in recent memory. Femi won the 2026 King of the Ring tournament at Night of Champions over the weekend, earning a World Championship match.

During Raw, General Manager Adam Pearce implied that Femi must give up his King of the Ring crown to face Lesnar at SummerSlam. As the Wrestling Inc review pointed out, this makes the entire King of the Ring tournament look completely pointless. Why have Femi win the crown if he is just going to forfeit the prize?

The creative team has booked themselves into a corner. If Femi loses to Lesnar, his aura of invincibility is shattered.

If he wins, he beats a part-timer but loses his guaranteed shot at the World Championship. It is a lose-lose situation that hurts one of the brightest young stars on the roster. Femi will likely defeat Lesnar to secure the trilogy, but the convoluted path to get there is a massive booking failure.

The Fallout and Faction Collapse

The Collapse of The Vision

While Rollins prepares for Reigns, his former faction is in ruins. The Vision is officially dead.

Bron Breakker lost to Rollins in a steel cage match at Night of Champions, and Austin Theory is floundering. Backstage, Theory ended his onscreen partnership with Maxxine Dupri before it could even get started. With Reed and Logan Paul out with injuries, the faction has completely dissolved.

This is a sad end for a group that started with so much promise. As Paul Heyman recalled, he checked himself out of the hospital for 18 hours with a PICC line and a catheter just to launch the faction at the Raw after WrestleMania 41.

Now, Heyman has walked away from Theory, returning to Lesnar's side. Rollins has moved on to bigger things, leaving Theory to sink to the bottom of the card.

Rollins does not need a faction anymore. His history with Reigns is all the ammunition he needs to walk out of SummerSlam as champion.
