The Hospital Update and the Rebuilding Phase

CJ Perry is recovering once again. As Ringside News recently reported, Perry confirmed that she underwent another successful surgery on July 3, 2026. The update came directly from her hospital bed.

Before the procedure, she shared a video admitting she was nervous. This operation is the latest hurdle in a grueling health stretch. Her battles began with a life-threatening MRSA infection in December 2023.

That initial infection started from a simple splinter. It sidelined her during her All Elite Wrestling run. Since then, Perry has had to rebuild her physical well-being.

Her public focus in January 2026 was her IVF journey with her husband, WWE superstar Rusev. Now, this successful July operation marks the end of her recovery era. It clears the path for her professional comeback.

Her recovery has been slow. She spent months in physical therapy following the 2023 infection. She also underwent surgery in New York City in January 2025.

These consecutive health battles kept her away from ringside. Now, with a clean bill of health, she is ready to return. She will resume her role as a premier manager.

The Data Proves the Manager's Value

Wrestling analysts often overlook the tactical impact of a manager. They treat them as simple window dressing. The numbers show a different story.

Look at the hard data from Rusev's initial main roster run in WWE. In 2014, with CJ Perry directing him, Rusev worked 151 matches. He maintained a win rate of 77.5%.

He went unpinned on television for an entire calendar year. Then came 2015. WWE decision-makers chose to split the pair in May of that year.

They inserted the duo into a widely disliked feud involving Dolph Ziggler and Summer Rae. Without Perry pacing his matches, Rusev's efficiency plummeted. His win rate in 2015 fell to a dismal 34.9% across 149 matches.

The drop-off was not due to a decline in Rusev's in-ring work. His Machka Kick remained just as stiff. The difference was the loss of the ringside tactician.

The strategic value of Perry lay in her control of Rusev's pace. In 2014, she would stand at ringside and dictate when he should slow the match down. She would command him to apply the Accolade at the exact moment his opponent's lower back was weakened.

When John Cena broke Rusev's streak at WrestleMania 31, it was because Rusev collided with Perry on the apron. That single moment of distraction cost him the match. It showed that without her guidance, his ringside composure broke down.

The AEW Experiment and Health Nightmares

Her subsequent run in AEW starting September 2023 was a mixed bag. She debuted at All Out to a massive crowd reaction. However, the creative direction was chaotic.

Miro initially rejected her help. This forced her to manage other wrestlers, including Andrade El Idolo and Action Andretti. The stories lacked the focused progression of her WWE work.

The partnership with Andrade El Idolo showed promise. She managed him during his feud with Miro, leading to a dramatic turn at Worlds End on December 30, 2023. Perry turned on Andrade to help her husband win the match.

But the momentum stopped immediately. The MRSA infection hospitalized her just days later. She was unable to appear on television to explain the betrayal.

This led to her quiet release from the company in April 2024. This AEW tenure was marred by creative frustration. Miro was also underutilized.

Their frustrations eventually led to Miro's mutual release in February 2025. The couple spent over a year away from major promotions. This period allowed them to focus on family and health.

The Modern WWE Run Has Stalled

Now, Rusev has returned to WWE, but he is missing the element that made him a star. Rusev returned to WWE on April 21, 2025, during Monday Night Raw in Las Vegas. He made an immediate impact by attacking Akira Tozawa and Otis.

He locked Tozawa in the Accolade and re-established his dominance. Yet, after fourteen months back on the red brand, his momentum has completely evaporated. The booking has been aimless and frustrating.

A late 2025 feud with Sheamus devolved into a series of predictable 50-50 matches. Instead of elevating either worker, the feud left both looking like mid-card gatekeepers. The low point came in February 2026.

Rusev suffered a clean pinfall loss to JD McDonagh of The Judgment Day after minor outside interference. A monster heel should not lose to a junior heavyweight because of a simple distraction. Rusev is missing the strategic shield that Perry used to provide.

He needs a ringside manager to run interference and restore his main-event aura. His current position on the card is stagnant. He is occasionally featured in tag matches or short television segments.

He is nowhere near the main-event picture. Roman Reigns dominates the World Heavyweight Championship scene. Sami Zayn holds the Undisputed WWE Championship.

Rusev has the physical tools to challenge these champions. But his promos lack the bite needed to main-event a pay-per-view. He needs a manager to build his matches.

The Plan for a Survivor Series Reunion

The solution is obvious. Perry is recovering from her latest surgery and will be ready for physical action by the fall. WWE should keep Rusev off television for the next two months.

Let the fans forget the JD McDonagh loss. Then, bring them back together as a unit at Survivor Series in November 2026. Perry should not return as a standard babyface manager.

She needs to bring back the cold, calculated approach that made them famous in 2014. Rusev can target the WWE Intercontinental Championship, currently held by Penta. Penta is a physical powerhouse, but he lacks tactical patience.

Perry can exploit that weakness from ringside. She can direct Rusev to target Penta's arm. This would neutralize his arm-breaker submission.

This reunion is the only way to save Rusev's current run from total irrelevance. The crowd will react to the familiar dynamic. The booking will write itself.

Perry handles the microphones. Rusev handles the violence. It is a proven formula that WWE needs to execute before the year ends.

If WWE management continues to book Rusev as a solo act, he will remain stuck in the mid-card. The crowd will lose interest in his squash matches. The fans will stop believing in his monster persona.

A reunion with Perry is not just a nostalgic callback. It is a tactical necessity to salvage a multi-million dollar contract.
